• butterflyYesterday was terrible.  JJ was walking a thin line. He was constantly testing my patience and won.  I was strung out.  I just can’t figure out what to do with him and how to handle his behavior.  I feel at a loss.

Today we are pseudo-snowed in because John took my car to work since it handles better in the snow.  George has a bad cold – so we cancelled our day anyways.  So we are cocooning.  This is my friend Marsha’s term.  She is an empty-nester, so her idea of cocooning looks  a little different than ours.  I’m sure it’s quieter.

  • george-hatMy friend Greta just started an Etsy Shop.  She sells these super cute kid’s hats.  George is wearing one in the picture – so warm and yummy.

The ones in the shop are girly and have sweet little flowers on them.  You can see them here.

While I’m talking about Greta, I should share that she is a great friend.  She especially has this quality  that I just love and want to emulate.  I’ll try to explain it and I hope I do it justice.  When I am with her she exudes a sense of rest and that makes me want to rest too.  I feel like I can just “be” with  her.  And after we’ve hung out, I usually have learned something about myself and leave feeling good about myself and life in general.   That’s a pretty good quality, huh?

fruit1We used our Sit ‘n Stand yesterday at the Roger’s Produce.   It came in handy as you can see.   It’s tricky now because George is too big (on my terms) for a sling but he can’t walk, so he still needs to be in a stroller.  We go to Rogers once a week or so, and that is also tricky now because of winter, everything is inside — which is the size of the boys room – small!

So it looks like this… George is in the stroller, we all get inside,  and while I am trying to look at my list and make good produce decisions( i.e. looking for bruised apples, brown bananas), JJ and Henry are filling there bags with apples.  Henry inevitably takes a bite out of one or two or three, despite the talks we had before about not eating inside Rogers.  Meanwhile, JJ is overfilling his brown bag spilling and bruising apples all over the filthy floor. While checking out,  I realize Henry has taken a bite out of something else and I put that on the order too. This is what happens at Rogers.

  • jerry-garcia2-300x111My sister, Katie, started a blog about her reclaimed skateboards.  She and her husband Carl and 2 sweet girls live in Eagle, CO.  You can read about her story on her blog, www.acrylikstudio.com.

There are three girls and my brother in our family and it’s amazing to see how different we are creatively.  It’s all across the board; from painting, to pottery,  stand-up comedy, landscaping, guitar, writing, upholstery, karaoke…wait a I don’t know if that can be classified as creative..but he is good.  It’s crazy.  I love watching my siblings engaged in whatever creative endeavor they are doing.  Probably because I can look back and see how bits and pieces growing up are reflected in their creation.  I don’t know if I’m making sense,  like Katie with her skateboards, she has always been a painter and her husband has a skateshop and how the two pieces (painting and skateboards) are now combined.  I think it’s cool.  And I love the fact that she is using something old and making it new, that’s one of my all-time favorite themes.

Anyways, check it out, and leave a comment for her.

  • img_2782Our George ’s birthday was yesterday.  It started out a little off, John and I forgot it was George’s birthday…till about 9am.  Whoops, sorry sweet George!  In our defense, we are not celebrating it with the family till this Sunday.  I guess that’s no excuse.

So the big kids and I tried to make up for it the rest of the day with a homemade birthday banner and using our emergency brownie mix  to make a special afternoon treat.  We invited the Hogans over and all enjoyed brownies and ice cream before dinner.  Grandma came over too with a balloon and sugar cookies.  So fun! • I love the mid-afternoon in my living room.  You can usually find me laying on my blue couch, facing the window, basking in the sun.  Our house faces west and between 2:30 and 3pm the sun briefly hits this spot on my sofa, I’m warm just thinking about it.  I’ll usually curl up there with a book and close my eyes for 10 minutes or so, sometimes doze off, sometimes hand over my thoughts to the inner committee in my head, sometimes pray.  Whatever I do, it is so peaceful and warm. • I’m not pregnant. But my friend Katy is with her 1st baby. And it’s a girl! She asked all her friends to come up with a list of the things they loved or wouldn’t get again to help her compile her baby registry.

So Katy, a little overdue, this post is for you. Read more…

Yesterday evening, John said this was the “perfect New Years Day”.  And it was.  It started off a little rough at 1am with JJ puking all over the bathroom.  Yummy.  He and John then stayed up (well JJ did) and watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory till 3:30am.  Everyone slept in till about 8:30am and it was then I declared it a Pajama Day. The rest of the day went something like this cinnamon rolls, laying around, puzzles, books,  everyone napped at the same time, I made a terrific dinner,  we all watched Willow,  kids to bed and John and I played Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD till midnight.

Here’s some images from our day…

    George’s 1st Oreo

Watching Willow; everyone wanted to snuggle with Daddy

Brotherly love, George and JJ during the movie
