Jill, you are soooo awesome! I wish that I had thought to call you when I was registering. It was so overwhelming and confusing but you have made it so simple.

My comments:
We used a travel system and we loved it but now with two kids, it never comes out of the closet. So, if you are planning to have more than one, listen to Jill.

I borrowed a breast pump and then when my friend had her baby (after I had used it for my first and most of my second) I went to Kangaroo Kids and bought a refurbished one. It worked great and saved us over $150.00. More money for other stuff, for sure.

Also, we never used a highchair. When our little ones were ready to eat, they were way too small for the one at my mom's house. We just have always used the booster seats with a tray that attach to your chair (not the table). They are cheap ($20.00) and a space saver, if you need that. OH Yeah, we have the book SUPER BABY FOOD (a thick purple book). It was great for letting us know what baby food to introduce and why and how to cook it since we made our own (for our first because our second wouldn't eat it). It goes into the toddler years and has great receipes for other things like gooey playdoh and homemade cleaners and wipes and stuff.

Baby gates, we have them everywhere and are more to keep our animals out than to protect our kids. We have a really fat cat that likes to suffocate you when you are sleeping (in case you were wondering) and litter boxes that dogs like to eat out of YUCK! We liked the cheepy wooden babygate at babies-r-us. It does have to be installed into the door frame but can be totally removed out of the brackets and easily put back on without having to remove a whole frame. And it looks really great!

I have used many slings... they are definatly a personal preference. I thought I would love the baby bjorn but didn't. I liked a cloth sling (with the ring - I think it is called a Maya Wrap) with my little ones and then used it again when they were older to support their weight on my hip when holding them. Also I like the Moby wrap but some feel it is way to much fabric to manage. The Moby is nice because it has extra fabric that can be used as a cover when nursing your baby.

Go on the website www.cottonbabies.com. They have a great site and are based in St. Louis. They are a cloth diaper store but have organic cloths, slings, some carseats, baby legs (a guilty pleasure of mine that I love to put both my 3 and 1 year old in), etc. We use cloth and love it.

Sorry this comment turned into a post.

Hope this helps and to Jill's friend, GOOD LUCK, GOOD WISHES and HAVE FUN!!!
