• 4 weeks ago, I got an iPhone.  It’s funny to think that this sweet little gadget tends to negate some of my core objectives.  For example, numbers 1, 3, 4, 6 and 9 on my list.   The first week was bad,  I actually went to bed with it and fell asleep looking at it.   I neglected my children.  I would check it at every “ding”.  I would compulsively think that I had lost it and spend time looking for it when it would always just be in my purse.  I checked email while driving.  I know, I was an addict.

So now weeks later, the novelty has worn off a bit.  I have realized the error of my ways and I am trying to find balance in my relationship with, well, my phone.  I know I sound crazy, but I’m not willing to give it up yet and join a 12-step group, so we’ve begun by making boundaries in our relationship and I think it is working.

I have to share some of the features I am loving about it right now.

    - All of my contacts are on my phone and displayed on a user-friendly interface.

    - I can actually text people now without taking like an hour to do it.  And now being able to text, I am slowly understanding how it can come in handy.  I used to be totally anti-text…I’m starting to see the light.  Most frequent text, “What’s your ETA?”, meaning are you coming home for dinner?

    - Pandora on my phone hooked up to my car.  My favorite stations lately have been “New Orleans Jazz”, “Rufus Wainright”, “Patti Griffin” and “Sondre Lerche”

    - The Bible app that John put on there for me.  I love that I can bookmark scripture on it and the “Daily Reading” has actually got me read some more of the Old Testament.

    - I’ve actually used the camera feature on it.  I never have understood having a camera on your phone, but I have had a couple of opportune moments that needed a quick pic.

    - The iCal feature has been great to have when I’ve been out too.  iCal in general has saved many of fights between John and I about communication.  So it’s great having it on the go too.

I’m trying not to go crazy over all the apps.  I would love to find a case for it that I like and find an app that does to-do lists, I haven’t found one I like yet.  Everything in moderation.
