I didn’t realize till Friday that John had arranged with his mom, Peggy, to watch the boys overnight on Saturday. We talked about it, but I never knew it went through. Great surprise for me. We are really blessed to have such great parents that happily watch our kids for us when the need arises.
To preface, we were really in need of a date night. The last 3 weeks with John’s job has been a bit out of control. He’s worked a lot of overtime with a couple of overnights at the office. It’s been really hard on him and for us back here at the ranch. But let me tell you – I am SO thankful he has a job, that was basically my mantra through the last month.
So what’d we do you ask?
John took me shopping and I bought the following….
It was Gap Friends and Family weekend….
so from Banana Republic….

The Gap….

Old Navy…

not Friends and Family discount, but from Anthropology….

And, as Maddie was surprised at – John picks out pretty much all my clothes. I love it b/c I’m totally not a shopper and have a very skewed perception of what looks good.
Then we headed to Macaroni Grill for a late dinner. We are not big on chain restaurants but love Macaroni Grill. Usually we get the Pasta Milano and the Penne Rustica….but last night we branched out. First of all, John got the Leaning Bellini – very not John, in my opinion. Then we got the Shrimp and Artichoke Dip, and for entrees John got the Veal Parmesean and I got the Grilled Salmon that had a honey teriyaki glaze with some spinach orzo — super good. Then John got a cheesecake to go – again, a very not John to get dessert to go. I so needed the time with John – I love my husband.
Being completely stuffed we went to bed at 10pm and slept through church on Sunday. It was just the decompression that we needed after this month.
