• newsboyI wrote a post for our church blog, it’s on expectations as a mom. Riverside’s blog is fairly new and it’s a great blog with lots of guest bloggers covering a wide range of topics.  I would totally recommend adding it to your blog roll.

So what are waiting for — click the link already!!   Oh yeah, and leave a comment there, maybe about what expectations you struggle with as a mom or person.  And, of course, leave a comment so I can feel validated in your expectations of me.  hehe.

restI haven’t posted in over a week.  I’m feeling like a bad blogger.  It hasn’t meant that a lot hasn’t been going on.  Quite the contrary.

Among the big highlights of last week are me having a gall bladder attack on Wednesday and our vacation to Branson getting canceled because of John’s work.  Both major bummers.

Now we are over last week and on to this week.  I took a week off of baby-sitting children other than my own.  JJ starts Jumpstart Kindergarten which is a 4-week program Webster schools does for kids who have never been to preschool.  Henry and George are going to our baby sitter’s Kid Camp that she is putting on every morning this week.  If you do the math, I have NO kids every morning this week.

This is when I freak out a bit.  What am I going to do?  Should I start a to-do list? Start planning every minute of this 3 hours in the morning? Or not do anything – which I am really uncomfortable with doing.

So I’m referring back to an older post for ideas of how I spend my free Friday mornings during the school year.  My desire is to prayerful about this time and spend it doing only things that I feel are life-giving to me.  So I’m going to resist the urge to clean out any closet or tackle anything big, but really try to just be and rest.

To help me post more regularly, I am also going to post what I did each morning.  Hopefully, this will make me more accountable and won’t get any moms who are currently in the trenches too jealous.

I started the week off right and had my friend Maddie, also the best massage therapist EVER, come over and give me a massage.

For a background about this series of posts on my Binder, click here.  If you want to see them all – you can search “binder” in the search bar.

This page in my Binder is titled “Weekly Home Blessing Hour“.

This is straight from Flylady. It covers once a week cleaning that needs to get done.  The idea is to use a timer and only do each item for 10 minutes – then it takes just over an hour to do it all.

I just love the name of it. It’s so much better than weekly chores or to-dos.  And it’s true you are blessing your family by doing these things.  I’ve tried to change it to include more things to do, but it is too much.  FlyLady has this one just right for me.

I usually do the Weekly Home Blessing Hour on Mondays.  Sometimes, when the house is particularly trashed by Friday – I’ll do another Weekly Home Blessing Hour in preparation for the weekend.  When I worked, I did one blessing each night of the week, so 10 minutes a night.

Here’s a link to my weekly-home-blessing-hour, if you want to download it.

Another fun thing FlyLady did was to record herself walking you through the entire Home Blessing Hour.  I love this.  It’s on my iPod and when ever I need motivation, it makes me feel like I’m not doing it alone and sometimes that helps.  I can’t find where to link to this right now, but if you are interested in it I can email it to you.

jjinsightI know all five year olds say amazing things.  JJ is a lot like John and I already – he’s in his head too much.  You can see when his gears are trying to crank something out. Today he offered me two insights, one spiritual the other just something I needed to know.

He was telling me how great it is that “Jesus can live inside our heart and be with us all the time.”  I agreed.  And then came the long thoughtful pause, and he asked, “So is there like an ittty, bitty, tiny land inside my heart?”  And then, with his fingers, he showed me how itty bitty tiny the land would be.

We were trying to get out the door and I asked the boys to put the couch cushions back on the couch before we left.  As they were doing it, I noticed how dirty the darker cushion got from being on the floor.  So I reasoned with them and said,  “This is why we don’t put the cushions on the floor, because they can get dirty.”   JJ then explained to me, “but the reason you had little boys was to play with couch cushions on the floor”.  Yeah, I still don’t get it exactly, but it probably was one of the reasons why I had little boys.
