We are getting off a week of being sick.  The only one coming away from it relatively unscathed was John.  Henry, JJ and I had strep, George has a viral infection and Emma had a little cough and rattle.

In my opinion, one of the most frustrasting things about the kids getting sick is that I never know for sure how sick they really are – how much of our lives do I need to cancel? I struggle with questions like if it is worthy of a doctor’s visit or should they go or not not go to school, should I cancel the kids that I watch over here?

If I decide they are doctor’s office worthy,  lugging all four kids to the doctor is no easy feat for me.  That coupled with cramming us all into a small room with things no one is suppose to touch requires a divine act of patience.   Then, depending on how many kids are potentially sick, times that by a $20 copay, in my mind will only pay off if they prescribe us drugs.

The worst is going through all the above, the doctor looking in ears, noses and throats with the conclusion that he has a “viral bug”.  There is nothing to be done except Tylenol and TLC.  Then, it’s hard for me to not to think that I lost a gamble of some sort, which included a little of my sanity and $20.

This week, however, I won the gamble.  I didn’t want to mess with passing the strep around for weeks and weeks, so I just took everyone to be tested and we all got medicine except George.  You would think that after having four kids, this sort of thing would be easy for me, but it’s not..ask me in five years.

I think they should make the rooms out of foam and toys and keep all the stuff you are not supposed to touch suspended from the ceiling so the kids can’t reach them. Then they should give YOU money when you leave because being a mom is way way harder than being a lame doctor. Love that you called it a gamble SO TRUE!!!
