• 4 weeks ago, I got an iPhone.  It’s funny to think that this sweet little gadget tends to negate some of my core objectives.  For example, numbers 1, 3, 4, 6 and 9 on my list.   The first week was bad,  I actually went to bed with it and fell asleep looking at it.   I neglected my children.  I would check it at every “ding”.  I would compulsively think that I had lost it and spend time looking for it when it would always just be in my purse.  I checked email while driving.  I know, I was an addict.

So now weeks later, the novelty has worn off a bit.  I have realized the error of my ways and I am trying to find balance in my relationship with, well, my phone.  I know I sound crazy, but I’m not willing to give it up yet and join a 12-step group, so we’ve begun by making boundaries in our relationship and I think it is working.

  • I’m not pregnant. But my friend Katy is with her 1st baby. And it’s a girl! She asked all her friends to come up with a list of the things they loved or wouldn’t get again to help her compile her baby registry.

So Katy, a little overdue, this post is for you. Read more…

  • The only reason I would want to be Oprah is to have the ability to shower my friends or random strangers with fabulous things that I love.  The things would probably not be as extravagant as Oprah’s and actually once I began compiling my list, a lot of them ended up not being things at all.  I realized more than half of my list was experiences.  Interesting, and some experiences you can’t really give, so I guess I would need some of Oprah’s people to figure out the details.   So here you are, family, friends and random people consider yourself gifted with my favorite things and I hope you get as much joy from them as I do.  (please let me know if any of these items magically appear under your chair)

  • I love finding great gifts for the little people in our life. Eventually I want to get a list together of my favorite gifts for different ages, but for now I’ll just post them here and there.

First of all, my definition for a “favorite gift” for a little person usually includes these parameters:

    • Around $10: Unless its a niece, I try to stick to a $10-$15 budget.  You can find lots of great gifts for this amount and it keeps me from going overboard.
    • Preferably something consumable.  Kids usually have a lot of toy “clutter” to begin with and I don’t want to add to the clutter.
    • Some ideas of consumable gifts: Crayons, Passes to The Magic House, Movie Tickets, Craft Kits, etc.

My friend Greta gives a ColorWonder Coloring Book with markers – I love this idea b/c it’s consumable, it’s not something I would buy for ourselves and its usually unisex so you can stock up if there is a sale.

So back to the purpose of this post, my fave gift to give lil’ girls right now is a crayon apron.  It’s great for girls from 2-5 (although the safety says 3yo), it’s easy to take on and off, you can get it monogrammed across the band if you want.  Amazon has them for $16.99; so yes it totally negates my gift parameters – BUT I’ve tested it and its totally worth it and they will get several years of mileage from it.
